Your Assignment

Research Assignment:

Assignment for the Informative Speech 150 point presentation, 50 point Outline

1. This is a speech which informs us about a topic that interests you! CHOOSE AN OBJECT, PERSON, EVENT, OR IDEA and tell us about it! Make the topic relevant to the audience. Make sure the topic can fit with the time provided (5-7 minutes). You are teaching the class about this topic, so be detailed and interesting! Deviation from the time limit will result in a grade reduction of up to 10% off your total grade.

2. Each speech should include an introduction (attention getter- “WOW” statement- and clear thesis/ preview), organized body (3-5 well structured main points with adequate examples), and conclusion (restate thesis and provide a sense of closure); should also employ transitions throughout the speech.

3. See Ch.11-13 for more information about Informative Speeches. You may use one page of notes for your presentation. DO NOT READ OUTLINE!

4. Submit a copy of full sentence outline, TYPED, on the day of your speech. Your outline should include a written introduction, conclusion, and transitions. See example posted on Blackboard. Make your outline looks like the example! Complete sentences, punctuation and spelling!

5. You must have 8 sources for this presentation. Only 2 may be from general internet web pages, such as Wikipedia or Discovery Channel. Web sources found through our library that are academic in nature are acceptable. The other 3 sources may be from books, newspapers, interviews, and reference materials. Cite in MLA or APA format.

6. Delivery: PRESENTATION AIDS ARE REQUIRED. Volume, rate, pitch, pauses, eye contact, gestures, movement, extemporaneous delivery, and enthusiasm will be graded. You should be able to show your Visuals as you talk.
